A fascinating discussion will unfold on Tuesday, August 26 when renowned pediatrician Barry Zuckerman takes the stage and describes the value of parents and grandparents reading to their young children to create a pathway and map guiding them for the rest of their lives– and that digital reading to children is not an effective substitute. 

For this TENT Talk, Dr. Zuckerman will be in conversation with Executive Director Kevin Rice who will share his relationship to reading and books from an early age.

About the speaker: Barry S. Zuckerman is Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine/Boston Medical Center. He is a co-founder of Reach Out and Read, a national childhood literacy program in the United States, founder of Medical-Legal Partnership, and founder of Healthy Leads and Healthy Steps, and all of which have transformed pediatric care. Most recently, along with colleagues, he developed a free app for pediatric primary care called "Small Moments, Big Impact" to promote the mother-infant relationship and emotional well-being for mothers from birth through the first six months of their baby's life. The author of over 250 scientific publications addressing the importance of mothers' health and well-being on child health and development, starting with pregnancy, and recipient of many awards . Dr. Zuckerman has also consulted globally for UNICEF in Turkey, Serbia and Bangladesh as well as universities Poland, Singapore, Norway and Taiwan.
