Payomet welcomes Mark Faherty, Science Coordinator at Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary on Tuesday, July 18 at 10:00am as part Payomet's new TENT Talks series, to discuss the world of birdsong here on Cape Cod.

Birds are nature's musicians. This lecture will teach the nature lover to appreciate the music of the great outdoors. Science Coordinator Mark Faherty will teach you how to listen to birds: how to categorize the different sounds, how to describe the calls and songs, and how to identify some common bird sounds here on Cape Cod. Recognizing birds by their sounds opens up a whole new awareness—the more you learn, the more you will realize what you've been missing.

About Mark: Mark Faherty has been the Science Coordinator at Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary since August 2007 and has led birding trips for Mass Audubon since 2002. While his current projects involve everything from oysters and horseshoe crabs to bats and butterflies, he has studied primarily bird ecology for the last 20 years, working on research projects in Kenya, Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, Mexico, and the Pacific Northwest. Mark's Weekly Bird Report airs each Wednesday on WCAI, the Cape and Islands NPR station. He also co-hosts Bird News, a monthly call-in show all about birds, on WCAI's The Point with Mindy Todd.
