“Fabulousness can come in many forms, and Taylor Mac seems intent on assuming each and every one of them.” – The New York Times
Theater artist Taylor Mac (who prefers “judy” as a gender pronoun) has long embodied the irreverent ethos of Provincetown, not just “defy[ing] categorization; [but making] the categories themselves seem irrelevant.” (TIMEOUT) Despite making Cape Cod’s bohemian bastion an annual retreat, Mac will take its stage after a too-long hiatus– appropriately decked-out and bedazzled, of course. We are privileged to present this long awaited return one of the great, genre-breaking Pulitzer Prize nominated performers of our time for a one-night-only ode to this extraordinary place: join us for Taylor Mac in Concert on Friday August 9 at Town Hall for a special Payomet Road Show.
Nearly a decade ago, Wesley Morris of The New York Times called Taylor Mac’s marathon performance art concert A 24-Decade History of Popular Music “one of the great experiences of my life” before it became the subject of an HBO original feature documentary film directed by Rob Eptein and Jeffrey Friedman and featured at last year’s Provincetown Film Festival.
“Mac works in drag, but not in drag cliches” (NY Times) and this new evening of songs and Mac’s signature banter will feature recent works – including new songs inspired by a lifetime of Provincetown summers – written in collaboration with the composer and Music Director Matt Ray and accompanied by an incomparable band.
Ticket Price: $48-$88*** // Members: $45-$84
***In England, it is tradition to sell "Concession Tickets" to eliminate cost as a barrier and ensure that all interested patrons have access to the arts. If you feel like the cost of the ticket may deter you from attending this performance, we welcome you to purchase a "Concession Ticket" in the House Section. We believe that all people should have access to art programming, and this is one of the ways Payomet seeks to spread cultural wealth. To access these tickets, select "House - General Admission", the quantity and click "Quickpick Tickets". On the following screen, choose "Concession Ticket" from the dropdown menu.
